The SE Switch: Evolution and Our SelfEsteem,Used

The SE Switch: Evolution and Our SelfEsteem,Used

This book offers a new idea about selfesteem. Viewed from the perspective of evolution and natural selection, the SE Switch is theorized to be an important, previously undescribed component of our brains. This device, originally evolved to assist animals in survival, has been passed on to humans and still functions as if our survival depended upon it.Hundreds of books and thousands of articles have been written on the subject of selfesteem. None of them examine selfesteem solely from the perspective of evolution. The SE Switch is a proposed brain mechanism, created by the evolutionary process and designed to determine the quality and level of our selfesteem. This model is newnot previously considered or described by other writers about selfesteem. It is different from other constructs of selfesteem in that it postulates a specific, primitive, intrinsic device which generates the root emotions we associate with selfesteem.Furthermore, no other writer has related selfesteem to everyday topics in the way this book does. Devotion to sports teams, regional and personal pride, professional behavior, the need to be right rather than wrong, arrogance, rationalization, projection, and a new means of dealing with feelings of negative selfesteem are described with different understanding for the first time. The emotions experienced from the operation of the SE Switch need to be understood to maximize our satisfaction and functioning in life. The author considers possible alternative explanations for disorders of selfesteem and offers suggestions for dealing with those unpleasant sensations of low selfesteem we all experience from time to time.
